Hi, welcome to The Keto My Success. My name is Chris and this is a chronical of my food experiments. My wife, Megan, and I started on a path to better health on July 29, 2015. We have a great family friend that kept telling us about this terrific way of eating that helped her to lose over 140 pounds… and counting. She was referring to the Ketogenic diet. I hate to use the term “diet” because it is really a lifestyle. It boils down to eating low carb, high fat, with moderate protein. Thus far, I have lost 50 lbs. with about 50 to reach my goal weight.
Megan and I have been married for six years and have four children. We were blessed to have two sets of twins! Elliott and Hudson are our 5 year olds; followed by our 3 year olds, McKenzie and Wyatt. Having kids really changes your perspective on life. My health topped the list. My dad passed away at the age of 57 from cardiac issues. I don’t want that for my kids.
Truth be told, the light bulb didn’t really go off until I went to speak with my family physician about this “diet” my friend told me about. Honestly, I was concerned. We have been told all our lives that we need to limit and reduce the amount of fat in our diet. I discussed this concern with my doctor. After all, I was already on medication to reduce my cholesterol and had a strong prevalence of heart disease in my family history. To that the doctor said, “So you think that your cholesterol is your primary health concern?” What?! What was she talking about? She explained that my blood work had shown that I was no longer pre-diabetic but had full on Type 2 diabetes. It was at that moment, that I knew there was no going back. I had to do something to fix this. I didn’t want to have an early expiration date like my father.
As I mentioned, I started the ketogenic lifestyle on July 29, 2015 and haven’t looked back. I am down a total of 50 lbs., I am off my diabetes medication, and the inflammation in my body has dropped by 50%. Most importantly, I feel better and have more confidence than I ever thought was possible. I now, truly, believe in myself and my ability to change the trajectory of my life.
I have found my passion in cooking. Specifically, I enjoy using my creativity in transforming our family’s favorite recipes into something we can enjoy living low carb, high fat (#lchf). I hope that sharing my successes and failures along the way will help someone else. I am not a doctor, nutrition expert, or dietician. Please know that anything that I share on this forum is only information I have gleaned from online resources, conversations with peers, and my own experiences. I am lucky enough to be a part of a community that shares in each other’s successes and supports one another in times of struggle. I hope that this place on the web can also be a place for everyone to share and grow in health, wellness, and GREAT FOOD!
